Plating…

While Workman Engineering & Manufacturing (WEM) is not a chemical vendor, our many years servicing the metal finishing industry has provided experience with many, if not all, of the common chemical processes used within the metal finishing industry. We specialize in designing and installing iron phosphate, zinc phosphate, and manganese phosphate equipment for pre-treatment and corrosion protection processes. In addition, our chrome plating and hard chrome plating equipment are engineered for durability and precision, whether you’re finishing automotive parts or industrial components. As a result, we believe that, as a company, we have significant experience to propose accurate process parameters and the materials of construction that will help assure that the conceptual design for your project is compatible with the chemistry that you expect to use.

Typical processes with which WEM has experience include:

  • Rack, Barrel and/or PCB Applications
  • Decorative Copper, Nickel & Chrome
  • Functional Hard Chrome
  • Zinc Plating Equipment:

Zinc plating involves depositing a thin coating of zinc metal onto the surface of another metal object, known as a substrate. The zinc coating creates a physical barrier that prevents rust from reaching the underlying metal surface. Zinc plating can utilize the following processes:

  • Acid Chloride
  • Acid Sulfate
  • Alkaline Non-Cyanide
  • Alkaline Cyanide

Zinc Alloy Plating Equipment

  • Alkaline Zinc Nickel
  • Acid Zinc Nickel

Cadmium Plating Equipment: Cadmium plating involves coating a substrate with a thin layer of cadmium and is utilized for it’s corrosion resistance in extreme environments or saltwater.

Precious Metals Plating:

  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Platinum
  • Rhodium

Non-Electrolytic Processes:

Electroless Nickel: Electroless plating involves the chemical deposition (without DC power) a layer of nickel onto a substrate for specific performance for corrosion or magnetic properties than can be achieved with electrolytic plating processes.  WE&M has experience with:

  • High phosphorous nickel
  • Mid phosphorous nickel
  • Low phosphorous nickel
  • Electroless copper
  • Electroless &/or immersion gold

Electroless Copper: Electroless copper plating is a chemical process that deposits an even layer of copper on the surface of a solid substrate, like metal or plastic.

Iron Phosphate: Iron phosphate coating prepares a surface or painting or powder coating by eliminating substrate surface contaminants thus creating a superior bonding surface.

Zinc Phosphate: Zinc phosphate plating is a metal finishing process that coats a metal surface with a non-metallic layer to improve its durability, appearance, and resistance to corrosion.

Manganese Phosphate: Manganese phosphate plating, also known as black phosphate coating, is a process that applies a dark gray, crystalline coating to ferrous metals to improve their performance

Black Oxide: Black oxide plating, also known as blackening, is a chemical process that creates a dark finish on metal parts to improve their appearance and corrosion resistance

Typical substrates with which WEM has experience include:

  • Carbon Steel
  • Stainless Steel
  • Copper
  • Brass
  • Bronze
  • Zinc
  • Plastic
